Get to know me

I am Rachel Yakar, a registered and licensed Occupational Therapist. Throughout my career, I've dedicated myself to providing family-centered treatment interventions. I believe in harnessing my client’s strengths, addressing their needs, and setting functional goals that positively impact their daily lives and relationships. My specialization lies in offering evidence-based occupational therapy evaluations and treatment interventions to children and families, focusing on improving their daily lives through healthy habits and routines that enhance well-being. In my practice, I draw upon various frames of reference and theories, including sensory integration, motor learning, human development, the transtheoretical model of change, motivational interviewing, positive psychology, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and dynamic systems theory.

My journey began with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Human Development and Family Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Continuing my education, I pursued a Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy at Midwestern University in Glendale, Arizona. I am committed to ongoing learning and development, regularly engaging in continuing education through the University of Southern California. Additionally, I completed the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Course at the University of Nevada Reno, and most recently, obtained my 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Certification through Yoga Alliance.

When I'm not collaborating with clients to achieve their goals, I serve as a California County Commissioner, passionately advocating for increased health and wellness resources for families within the community. I also contribute to the Community Foundation’s Grant and Scholarship Committee, advocating for young adults to prioritize their education. Outside of work and advocacy, I enjoy hobbies such as knitting, trail running, and embracing the outdoors in Tahoe with my husband, two sons, and our dog.

"Kinspire uses a genuine, family-centered approach to meet parents and children where they are, and I can support families to build practical strategies to manage tough and challenging situations in a collaborative way."

Family Story

“Working with Rachel was an incredible benefit to my whole family, not just my son. She uses evidence-based concepts but tailors them to the child (and family for that matter!). She took a lot of time learning about our family dynamics and my son's individual needs/characteristics, then created strategies that were realistic for us to follow through. She has a very gifted way of giving parents a different view and approach in regards to parenting. You can tell her intent is genuinely in the best interest of the child. Particularly in a time when children and parents don't have the support network they used to have, Rachel's program brought us back to a workable and hopeful space. I look forward to ongoing sessions with Rachel during the peaks and valleys of parenting!”
